We have invested a great deal in transport on Cobalt, with a dedicated Travel Co-Ordinator on-site able to provide personal travel plans for all Cobalt members and a regularly updated Travel Section on the Cobalt website with information on all possible modes of transport to and from Cobalt Business Park. From the Cobalt Clipper 309 Service running between Blyth and Newcastle, Car Sharing and Taxi Share schemes to designated off-road cycle routes that connect up to the Waggonways Cycle Ways your journey to work should be as easy and carefree as is possible. Cobalt members can also borrow one of ten brand new bicycles to get around the park, whether for a leisurely cycle during a lunch hour or to commute between buildings on the ever expanding Cobalt site.
Use the tabs below to view the varied methods of transport in and around Cobalt Park.
Cycling is one of the healthiest transport options and one of the safest forms of exercise. In fact regularly
cycling to work can dramatically improve your general fitness and can reduce levels of stress and anxiety.
Some people are happy to cycle longer distances, but we believe that if your journey to Cobalt is less
than 5km then cycling could be a practical option which is well worth considering!
All buildings in Cobalt Business Park offer a high standard of facilities to cater for staff traveling to work
by bicycle. These include showers, lockers and secured parking for bicycles.
Cobalt Business Park also offers a ‘Ride Before You Buy’ scheme. This unique opportunity enables you
to borrow one of our pool bikes to take for a test drive on a route formulated for you by the on-site
Travel Co-Ordinator. This way you can see if cycling would be a suitable means of transport for you to
travel to and from work without having to invest in a bicycle! However this service is only available to
Cobalt Community Card members and is subject to term and conditions. Pool bikes are also available
for loan over lunchtime for one hour in order to pop along to the shops or to explore the Countryside
using the Waggonways.
More than half of the 6,500 staff at Cobalt live within five miles of the business
park – the UK’s largest business park – and they could save £400 each year by
cycling to work instead of bringing their car, according to a travel expert.
